I am trying to keep up with my blogging a bit more over the last few days, 'cause it's one of those things that can fall by the wayside when you're busy -- and it really shouldn't.
On Thursday evening I had a session with a big family group, at a park in the South. I had never been to Weaselhead before, it was very pretty and a great location. The last days of summer are so lovely and warm, with a golden quality of afternoon light that you only get this time of year. I'm still processing the rest of the photos, but here are a few sneak peeks...
Thank you all for a great shoot, you should be able to view your gallery of photos soon!

Photography Books
Books are one of my favourite ways to learn. Unlike a class -- when you are struggling with something at 2am, trying to figure it out -- a book is always at-hand. You can learn at your own pace, bookmark pages, and find things in the index. Books are love, and I was a total bookworm as a kid.
A number of times I've personally been asked, or I've seen a big call out asking what books are good for photographers, particularly those starting out. Well, here are my top few that I have found invaluable or interesting in the past. It's like building your own photography course! As long as you can keep up with the reading, of course.
Even if you bought all of these, it's still a lot cheaper than taking a photography course, or paying tuition (trust me on that one). The Digital Photography book by Scott Kelby is so lovely to read and refer to. Each page is its own photography tip or tecnique. Scott has a knack for fun writing. He also wrote the Lightroom 2 book, which I found to be a tremendously valuable and in-depth reference tool. It's pretty thick!
Anyway, the six books above are my faves and I can't recommend enough!

New Arrival - Poet
Did a quick newborn shoot this evening, of a two-week old girl named Poet. I don't have nearly enough time to process the images YET, but here's a quick little sneak peek for D&S:
Thank you both so much for welcoming me to your home to photograph your new arrival! She is amazingly cute.

Expecting! (Maternity Photos)
Michelle & Kevin Wedding
I haven't been keeping up with my blogging, it's one of the things with all of the shooting and travelling that seems to get left behind! In May I did a combination (Wedding and then a reception two weeks later) for Kevin and Michelle. They were gracious and wonderful to work with, and an absolute delight to shoot. It was easy to see the love and affection between these two. They had two beautiful and relaxed days which I was so privileged to capture!
They took the time to write this beautiful review posted on my proofing service. I was so touched!
Lisa was amazing! We had our wedding and reception on different days, and we were very fortunate that Lisa was able to be our photographer for both events! From the first "pre-meet" where we discussed what photos we'd like for our wedding, to the stunning and beautiful photos of the wedding, to the great shots at our reception, we were very impressed with her work! I'm not a person who's typically comfortable being in front of a camera, so Lisa's style of "capturing the moment" instead of forcing poses really worked for us. The lighting was perfect, and I LOVE the creative photos she took - very unexpected, yet some of my favourite ones by far! Apart from her very friendly demeanor, fabulous photos, and professionalism, I loved that she was so easy to get in touch with. Any time I left her an e-mail, she was very quick to return it - even when she was out of town! That level of communication and commitment really blew me away!! We have told so many of our friends and family about her, and we'll definitely be calling her the next time we need an event photographed!

Newborn Babies
I recently got back from a trip to Maui (photos to come!), so I am a little behind. Before I left, I had the opportunity to do two different newborn shoots, one of a baby boy and another of a baby girl. So cute!
